This is Rudy Wassenaar, and today I want to delve deeper about what to expect after your wisdom tooth extraction, and things to keep in mind when it comes to recovering from the surgery.
After having your wisdom teeth extracted, you’ll have pockets in the back of your gums and jaw. With that being said, your wound will be susceptible to infection and inflammation. It’s important that you know what to expect, so you can take care of yourself after surgery.
During recovery, you’ll be in a good bit of pain. Part of recovering is preparing before your surgery. Before your surgery, you should go to the grocery store and stock up on food that will be easy to eat after your surgery.
In a previous blog, we talked about food that is easy to consume after your wisdom tooth extraction. You can use it as a guide to figure out what you should buy. When grocery shopping, purchase soft and subtle foods like applesauce, chicken soup, yogurt, or cottage cheese.
After the surgery, you’ll need to spend some downtime recovering. With that being said, before your surgery, you should get your entertainment supplies ready. These will distract you from any discomfort that you experience after the treatment.
Depending on what you prefer to do in your downtime, you should figure out what movies, books, or video games you want to play while you’re recovering. If you like to play Sudoku, make sure that you have a bunch of puzzles and pencils. Make sure that your post-operative entertainment doesn’t involve a lot of movement or energy. You’ll need to save your energy for recovering.
Before your surgery, you’ll also need to find someone to drive you to and from the doctor’s office. They will also need to swing by your local pharmacy to help you pick up your painkillers. Make sure that your driver is someone you trust, and someone that will be committed to helping you recover.
After your surgery, there are some things that you should keep in mind that will help with a speedy and healthy recovery.
One important thing to remember about your wisdom tooth extraction is to look for the warning signs of dry socket.
Even though having your wisdom teeth removed is a fairly simple process, the aftercare can be slightly discomforting. However, taking care of yourself after the surgery is only a small pain compared to the pain of an impacted tooth.
